Help Needed: Still Being Charged After Disconnecting Services

0

Hi AWS Community,

I'm seeking advice on an issue I encountered while learning AWS services. Even after I believe I have disconnected all services, I am still seeing charges on my account. I realize now that I made some mistakes along the way, and I’d appreciate any help figuring out what went wrong.

What I Did: I was experimenting with Amazon Kendra and Amazon Q for learning purposes. I created an S3 bucket and uploaded a few documents for Kendra. After seeing unexpected charges, I deleted the S3 bucket and stopped the services (or so I thought). I’ve also been using the root account, which I know now is a bad practice, but due to laziness, I didn’t create an IAM user. My Issue: Despite disconnecting the services and deleting the S3 bucket, I’m still seeing charges on my account. For example:

Yesterday's Bill (September 16, 2024): $21.29 Today's Bill (September 17, 2024): $36.47 Today Only I came to know even after deleting the indexes in Kendara you have to delete the S3 bucket which is the connected data sources to Kendara But I don't know what are the others mistakes I am doing.. Is there any possible ways to delete all the services ( I can do because I am not doing any important work) Just Learning If possible to delete all the services please say the way.. Even though I’ve taken steps to stop the services, these bills keep rising, particularly for Amazon Kendra and Amazon Q. I’m not sure if there’s anything I missed, such as additional settings or hidden resources that I need to delete to stop these charges. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could guide me on what I might be overlooking.

Specific Questions: What should I check to ensure no resources (indexes, instances, services) are still running in the background? Is there anything I can do to prevent further charges after deleting the S3 bucket and stopping the services? Kendara

Hello.

The "Amazon Kendra KendraDeveloperEdition" charge should stop if the Kendra index can be deleted.
If you delete it today, it shouldn't increase any more after tomorrow.

How exactly was Amazon Q used?
With Amazon Q, user fees are charged on a monthly basis, so does it seem like the fees are going up?
Or is it an index fee?

You can also use Cost Explorer to identify which AWS services are incurring costs.
You can see daily charges by setting Granularity to Daily.

Hello,

To stop being charged after disconnecting services in AWS, follow these simple steps:

Delete Kendra Index: Make sure you deleted all Kendra indexes, including any connected resources like S3 buckets.

Cancel Amazon Q: If you subscribed to Amazon Q, cancel it. Charges are monthly, so it continues even if not actively used.

Use Cost Explorer: Check Cost Explorer to identify any remaining services that are causing charges.

Delete Unused Resources: Go to AWS Resource Groups and check for any running services, instances, or other resources that need to be deleted.

Billing Dashboard: Review your Billing Dashboard regularly to spot unexpected charges.

These steps should help you stop the ongoing charges.
