EC2 instance shutting down for more than 2 days

Question

I have an instance that has been stuck in shutting down state for a few days:  
  
i-060b2cf59593c4573  
us-east-1a  
  
How can I finally end it and free its resources?

Answer

You should be able to select it on the console even if it still says "Stopping" and select the Stop action again, this time it should have a force.  
  
If for some reason this doesn't work, you can issue it from the AWS CLI:

```
aws --region  ec2 stop-instances --instance-ids  --force
```
