Why am I seeing 502 Error?

0

Last week we started to notice some of our images not loading, we figured it was a cache issue. This week, more images are not loading. It seem like a broken link. If we right click on each image and select to open image in new tab, we see the following message:

502 ERROR The request could not be satisfied. CloudFront wasn't able to connect to the origin. We can't connect to the server for this app or website at this time. There might be too much traffic or a configuration error. Try again later, or contact the app or website owner. If you provide content to customers through CloudFront, you can find steps to troubleshoot and help prevent this error by reviewing the CloudFront documentation.

nothing has changed or been updated, just started happening one day. Its not affecting all our images, just a several.

we already created several invalidations with no success.

any ideas how to fix this?

Based on the information you've provided, it appears you're experiencing a 502 error with CloudFront, which indicates that CloudFront is unable to connect to your origin server. This error can occur for several reasons, and here are some potential causes and solutions to consider:

  1. Origin server issues: Your origin server (where the images are stored) may be experiencing problems or is not responding correctly. Check if the origin server is functioning properly and can serve the images directly.

  2. DNS configuration problems: There might be an issue with the DNS configuration that's preventing CloudFront from connecting to your origin. Ensure that the DNS settings for your origin domain are correct and functioning.

  3. Network or firewall issues: Check if there are any network or firewall configurations blocking CloudFront from accessing your origin. Verify that the required ports (typically 80 for HTTP or 443 for HTTPS) are open and that CloudFront's IP ranges are allowed.

  4. SSL/TLS certificate problems: If you're using HTTPS, there could be issues with the SSL/TLS certificate on your origin server. Ensure that the certificate is valid, not expired, and includes the correct domain names.

  5. Origin response timeout: If your origin is taking too long to respond, CloudFront may time out and return a 502 error. Check if your origin server is under heavy load or if there are any performance issues.

  6. CloudFront configuration: Review your CloudFront distribution settings to ensure they are correctly configured to access your origin server.

To troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

  1. Check your origin server's logs for any errors or issues.
  2. Verify the DNS configuration for your origin domain.
  3. Test the direct connection to your origin server to ensure it's responding correctly.
  4. Review your SSL/TLS certificate if using HTTPS.
  5. Check CloudFront's error logs and metrics in CloudWatch for more detailed information about the errors.
  6. Ensure that your origin server can handle the traffic it's receiving.

If the issue persists after checking these areas, you may need to contact AWS Support for further assistance in diagnosing the problem specific to your CloudFront distribution and origin configuration.
