How do you sort a horizontal bar chart by count in Quicksight? (not by a field)

0

I've got a horizontal bar chart that is showing the count of "something" within a category. I want to sort this count ascending, essentially, most at the top. However... that doesn't appear to be possible.

Sorting a horizontal bar chart by count in Amazon QuickSight is possible, although it may not be immediately obvious. Here's how you can achieve this:

  1. Open your analysis containing the horizontal bar chart you want to sort.

  2. Look for the field well that represents the count or measure of your data. This is typically the field that determines the length of the bars in your chart.

  3. Click on this field well to open its menu.

  4. In the menu, look for the "Sort" option. Select it, and then choose the descending sort order icon. This will sort your data with the highest count at the top.

If you want the most frequent items at the top (which is equivalent to sorting by count in descending order), this method should work. However, if you specifically need ascending order (least frequent at the top), you would choose the ascending sort order icon instead.

If this method doesn't work, you can try an alternative approach:

  1. Click on the chart to bring up the on-visual menu.

  2. Look for the "Sort visual" icon or option.

  3. In the "Sort visual" menu, select the field that represents your count or measure.

  4. Choose whether you want it sorted in ascending or descending order.

  5. Click "Apply" to implement the sort.

Remember, the exact steps might vary slightly depending on your specific chart configuration and the version of QuickSight you're using. If you're still having trouble, you may need to check if there are any limitations or specific settings in your dataset or chart that are preventing the sort from working as expected.
