Based on the error message you received, it appears you don't have the necessary permissions to change your IAM user password. Here's how you can address this issue and change your password on the AWS Management Console:
-
First, you need to ensure that you have the required permissions to change your own password. This permission is typically granted by your AWS account administrator.
-
The administrator needs to attach a policy to your IAM user that allows the ChangePassword action. An example of such a policy would include permission for the "iam:ChangePassword" action.
-
Once you have the correct permissions, you can change your password by following these steps:
a. Sign in to the AWS Management Console using your current credentials. b. Navigate to the "My Security Credentials" page. c. In the "Password" section, click on "Change password". d. Enter your current password and your new password, then confirm the new password. e. Click "Change password" to save the changes.
-
If you're using the AWS CLI, you can change your password using the
change-passwordcommand. This method is particularly useful for passwords with special characters. -
Remember that your new password must comply with the account's password policy. This policy is set by your administrator and may include requirements for length, complexity, and character types.
If you continue to experience issues, you should contact your AWS account administrator. They can verify your permissions and ensure that you have the necessary access to change your password. They may also need to check if there are any custom password policies in place that might be preventing the password change.
Lastly, it's worth noting that if you're using IAM Identity Center (formerly AWS Single Sign-On) or if you're a federated user, the process for changing your password may be different and would typically be managed through your organization's identity provider rather than directly in the AWS Management Console.

You're most probably using a restricted IAM User that doesn't have the iam:ChangePassword permission. You need to either access with a privileged account to request that permission or talk with an AWS Account Administrator so they can change the password for you or give you the permission.
