I have completed the L3 workshop.

But today when I am trying to connect to my AppStream VDI, I am getting the below error (see attached).

I am unable to see my D drive which is the workspace I am using for my project.

Hi Abbas,

Thanks for sharing the issue you’re encountering with AppStream VDI. Let’s get this sorted for you.

Clarifying the Issue

From your description and screenshot, it seems:

  1. You’ve completed the L3 workshop.
  2. You’re connecting to your AppStream VDI but encountering the error "Failed to load user settings".
  3. The D drive, which acts as your workspace, is not visible.

Key Terms

  • AppStream VDI: Amazon AppStream 2.0 provides virtualized desktops, enabling access to apps and resources.
  • D Drive Mapping: The D drive typically represents a local or shared folder/workspace. For it to appear, proper user settings and drive permissions must load successfully.

The Solution (Our Recipe)

Follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

  1. Check Drive Redirection Settings:

    • Ensure that local drive redirection is enabled for your AppStream configuration.
    • Go to Fleet SettingsSession Settings → Verify that “Enable local drive access” is turned on.
  2. Verify User Permissions:

    • Confirm that the user profile you are logging in with has permissions to access the workspace (D drive).
    • Reach out to your administrator if necessary to reset permissions.
  3. Fix “Failed to Load User Settings” Error:

    • This error often occurs when the user profile or local settings cannot be loaded.
    • Clear any temporary user profile issues:
      • Reboot your VDI session.
      • If the problem persists, your admin may need to reset your user profile in AppStream.
  4. Reconnect to AppStream and Test:

    • Once settings are adjusted, reconnect to your AppStream VDI and verify if the D drive appears under File Explorer.

Closing Thoughts

If you still can’t access the D drive, consider checking for network issues or reviewing policies applied to your AppStream environment. Your AWS administrator may also review system logs for more clues.

Let me know how it goes, Abbas! I’m here to help if you need further clarification. 😊

Cheers, Aaron 🚀
