Can customized US region Windows AMI be used in China regions?

Hello, My customer is using Windows AMI in US region(license included). They started to run workload in China regions. The plan is to publish customized AMI in US region and use it in China region. Is the license in US AMI valid in China too? Any detailed instructions on the process? Thank you.

Answer

The China region is in a different AWS partition to the non-China regions. You would not be able to copy the AMI from a non-China region to the China region.

You would therefore need to start with the licence included AMI provided by AWS in China, and apply the customizations to that in the China region - and make a golden AMI from that. Then you would be able use that in the China region to launch instances.
