Thank you for your question about the AWS IoT Core Device Advisor and the Qualification Program. Let me clarify the process for you.
To use Device Advisor for the AWS Device Qualification Program, you don't need to write your own test scripts. AWS IoT Core Device Advisor provides pre-built tests that are required to qualify a device for the AWS Device Qualification Program. These tests are already set up and ready to use within the AWS IoT Core console or through the AWS CLI/SDK.
The process typically works like this:
-
You start by creating a test suite in the AWS IoT Core console or using the AWS CLI/SDK. This test suite will include the pre-built qualification tests provided by Device Advisor.
-
Once you've created the test suite, you need to configure your IoT device to connect to the Device Advisor test endpoint. This involves updating your device's firmware or software to use the Device Advisor endpoint instead of the standard AWS IoT Core endpoint.
-
After your device is configured, you run the test suite. The device will then attempt to connect and perform various operations based on the tests in the suite.
-
Device Advisor will execute the tests and provide results and detailed logs.
-
If the qualification test suite completes successfully, you can retrieve a qualification report using the GetSuiteRunReport API operation.
You don't need to write Python scripts or any other code to execute the tests themselves. The tests are run by Device Advisor, and your device simply needs to be able to connect and communicate with AWS IoT Core as it normally would.
However, you may need to write code for your device to properly connect to the Device Advisor test endpoint and perform normal IoT operations (like publishing messages or updating device shadows). This code would be similar to what your device uses in production, just pointed at a different endpoint.
EDIT by Greg_B: Ideally it is your production firmware and you merely need to configure the endpoint on the device. AWS IoT Core Device Advisor is best served to regression test your real production firmware and/or to qualify your real production firmware.
If you need examples of how to interact with AWS IoT Core from a device, AWS provides SDKs and sample code in various languages, including Python, which you can use as a starting point for your device's code.
Remember, the key is to ensure your device can successfully communicate with AWS IoT Core through the Device Advisor test endpoint. The actual test logic is handled by Device Advisor itself.
