Verify domain with German umlauts

Dear all,

I'm trying to verify a domain with a german umlaut (ä, ö, ü) for Amazon SES. The chars are perfectly fine for german domains (.de) but the console is telling me "Invalid domain name". Is there a way to verify that domain? We've moved our sending entirely to Amazon and now a customer needs to send with that particular domain. Sadly Amazon doesn't offer technical support for basic plans and I don't think upgrading will help me if this entirely isn't supported.
