If you enable only the Cost Optimization Hub without enabling AWS Compute Optimizer, you'll still receive a wide range of cost optimization recommendations, but you may miss out on some specific insights that Compute Optimizer provides.
Cost Optimization Hub is a comprehensive feature that consolidates recommendations from multiple AWS services, including Compute Optimizer. It provides a centralized view of cost optimization opportunities across your AWS accounts and regions. This includes recommendations for resource rightsizing, idle resource deletion, Savings Plans, and Reserved Instances.
However, while Cost Optimization Hub does include many of the recommendations that Compute Optimizer would provide, it's not a complete replacement for Compute Optimizer. Compute Optimizer offers more detailed and specific recommendations for certain resource types, particularly EC2 instances, based on workload patterns and performance metrics.
For the most comprehensive cost optimization strategy, it's recommended to enable both Cost Optimization Hub and Compute Optimizer. This ensures you get the broadest range of recommendations and the most detailed insights for specific resource types.
By enabling both services, you'll benefit from:
- A consolidated view of all cost optimization opportunities (via Cost Optimization Hub)
- Detailed performance-based recommendations for EC2 instances and other supported resources (via Compute Optimizer)
- More accurate savings estimates that take into account your specific AWS pricing terms
If you only enable Cost Optimization Hub, you'll still get valuable recommendations, but you might miss out on some of the more nuanced, performance-based insights that Compute Optimizer provides for certain resource types. Therefore, for optimal results, it's best to use both services together.

For Cost Optimization Hub to import recommendations from AWS Compute Optimizer, you need to opt in to Compute Optimizer. Compute Optimizer supports standalone AWS accounts, member accounts of an organization, and the management account of an organization.
