slow lightsail server

0

Hello, it was about 1-2 months ago that the lightsail server went down, at which time I upgraded to a larger version. But today this version is also starting to give in. It just happened overnight. Not a single indicator reached a critical level, cpu usage 5%. No more visitors came, nothing to motivate. There was a restart, stop/restart, but so far nothing has solved the problem.

PHP server with Laravel applications only.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? What should I look at to help find out what's causing the slowdown?

Thanks.

Based on the information you've provided, there could be several reasons for your Lightsail server's slowdown, even when the CPU usage and visitor numbers appear normal. Here are some potential areas to investigate:

  1. Memory usage: Even if CPU usage is low, your server might be running out of memory. This can cause slowdowns and unexpected behavior. Check your server's RAM utilization to ensure it's not maxed out.

  2. Disk I/O: High disk read/write operations can slow down your server. Check if your applications or database are performing excessive disk operations.

  3. Database performance: If your Laravel applications rely heavily on database operations, slow queries or an overloaded database could be causing the slowdown.

  4. Network issues: Check if there are any network-related problems, such as high latency or packet loss, that could be affecting your server's performance.

  5. Application-level issues: There might be a problem within your Laravel applications, such as memory leaks, inefficient code, or unoptimized database queries.

  6. Server logs: Examine your server logs, including error logs and slow query logs, to identify any recurring issues or errors that might be causing the slowdown.

  7. Burst capacity: Lightsail instances have a baseline performance with the ability to burst above that baseline. If you've used up your burst capacity, performance can degrade even if current CPU usage is low.

To troubleshoot:

  1. Monitor your server's resource usage over time, not just at a single point.
  2. Review your application logs for errors or warnings.
  3. Check your database performance and optimize queries if necessary.
  4. Consider enabling and reviewing slow query logs to identify problematic database operations.
  5. Analyze your application code for potential inefficiencies or memory leaks.

If the problem persists after investigating these areas, you may need to consider further upgrading your Lightsail plan or migrating to a more powerful service like EC2 for better performance and more detailed monitoring capabilities.

1/3 of the server memory is in use, so there is plenty to spare. I reduce the load on the database, but there is no improvement either. I don't know where to go because there are no outstanding numbers. But I don't understand why the lightsail upgrade would fix my problem if I don't use my resources anyway?

Hello,

Are you able to post details of your resource use on the server? If your server has intermittent performance issues, then it would likely indicate periods of high activity consuming CPU in your temporary burst zone. If the server is persistently slow, it may indicate another problem entirely, such as running out of disk space. If you can provide more details on your instance then it will be easier to determine the underlying cause.

Thank you.

I will send what I see:

Disk Information Device Mount Point Usage Status / / 39% (32,364,732 of 83,874,796)

Unfortunately, to this day, loading a simple site takes several seconds, displaying smaller images also takes several seconds.
