Hello.
Is your EC2 instance's CPU usage or memory usage high?
If these values are high, there is a possibility that the instance specifications are insufficient.
Also check the CloudWatch metrics to see how much CPU credits are being consumed.

Please follow the steps in the document below to check the system log and see if there are any errors.

Many thanks. This was the problem and the cpu utilization was up to 99%. Will need to upgrade the instance.
