Bedrock agentcore issue

0

I am deploying a Bedrock AgentCore agent and runtime in the same account (us-east-1).
Every invoke fails with: AccessDeniedException: AccountId ... can't call Identity endpoint directly, please call front layer instead.
Front layer role exists (AWSServiceRoleForBedrockAgentCoreRuntimeIdentity). I cannot change the runtime role to remove identity, redeploy, or anything else — error persists

This error suggests there's an issue with the permissions or configuration related to your Amazon Bedrock AgentCore runtime. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

  1. Check the permissions for your IAM user/role that's making the API calls. Ensure that your caller has the bedrock-agentcore:CreateAgentRuntime permission.

  2. Verify that the execution role for your AgentCore runtime is properly configured and can be assumed by Amazon Bedrock AgentCore service. The service role needs to follow the guidance on permissions for Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Runtime execution role.

  3. If you're receiving an "Access denied" error, it could be related to the iam:PassRole permission. Your IAM policies may need to be updated to allow you to pass a role to AgentCore. This permission is necessary when you need to pass an existing role to the service.

  4. For the specific error about "can't call Identity endpoint directly," this suggests there might be an issue with how the agent is being invoked. The error indicates you're trying to call an identity endpoint directly when you should be going through the front layer.

  5. Since you mentioned the front layer role exists (AWSServiceRoleForBedrockAgentCoreRuntimeIdentity), check if there are any issues with this service-linked role's permissions or trust relationships.

  6. Review CloudWatch logs for any startup errors that might provide more details about the authentication issues.

If the issue persists after checking these items, you may need to contact AWS Support for further assistance, as there might be an underlying configuration issue that requires their intervention.
