What is AWS and why am I being charged for it

0

I have no idea how it happened and I have no idea exactly what this AWS site even is. I do not remember signing up for anything like this and really want to know what it is and why money was taken from me

AWS stands for Amazon Web Services, which is a cloud computing platform offered by Amazon. It provides a wide range of services and products that businesses and individuals can use for various computing needs, such as hosting websites, running applications, storing data, and more.

If you're being charged for AWS and don't remember signing up, there are a few possibilities:

  1. Accidental sign-up: You may have inadvertently signed up for an AWS account, perhaps while exploring cloud services or through a related Amazon service.

  2. Free trial expiration: AWS offers a free tier for some services, but after the trial period ends, you may start incurring charges for continued usage.

  3. Unauthorized access: In rare cases, someone else might have gained access to your information and created an account in your name.

  4. Forgotten account: You might have created an account in the past and forgotten about it, but left some resources running.

To address this situation:

  1. Check your email for any AWS-related communications that might explain the charges.

  2. Log in to the AWS Management Console using your Amazon credentials to review your account activity and billing details.

  3. Look for any active services or resources that might be generating charges.

  4. If you're certain you didn't create an account, contact AWS Support immediately through their billing and account support channels.

  5. Consider enabling multi-factor authentication on your account to prevent unauthorized access.

Remember, AWS is separate from Amazon's retail services, so having an Amazon.com account doesn't automatically mean you have an AWS account. If you're unsure about any charges, it's best to contact AWS directly to investigate and resolve the issue.
