IVS integration with Video.js 8

IVS The 'e.extend' method has been discontinued in videoJs version 8 (see here: https://videojs.com/guides/videojs-7-to-8/#videojsextend) , therefore 'registerIVSTech' (for the integration) can only work with version 7 of videoJs (or at least that is my understanding..). Does anyone know if the IVS tech will be updated to support the new ES6 way of extending the videoJS library? Is there a way to make it work with version 8 currently?

The impacts of Video.js ver 8 are being evaluated by the Amazon IVS product team. At this time, the use of Video.js ver 7 should continue to be used for IVS player integration.
