Can Fargate access Athena and Glue without NAT?

0

We have Fargate instances running data processing that interacts with Athena and Glue services, in addition to S3 and DynamoDB. Fargate does not need to be accessed externally, so the VPC is private.

I have found that I can set up a VPC gateway endpoints for S3 and DynamoDB to route the traffic to those services: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/vpc/latest/privatelink/gateway-endpoints.html

My question is that can I set up similar endpoints to access Glue and Athena? Or if I do not set them up will my Fargate be unable to perform Athena queries and do Glue modifications?

You sure can. These are Interface Endpoints and NOT gateways like S3 and DynamoDB. There will be a charge per ENI for Glue and Athena endpoints

Glue : https://docs.aws.amazon.com/glue/latest/dg/vpc-interface-endpoints.html

Athena : https://docs.aws.amazon.com/athena/latest/ug/interface-vpc-endpoint.html
