Price Estimate for Bedrock, is this correct?

0

We will like to try out RAG on Bedrock and need to have an estimate of costs. We plan for a modest prototype.

Using the guideline of 75 words = 100 tokens. We are considering

Ave no of words/question: 15 Ave no of questions/month: 200 Ave no of question tokens/month: 15X200X100/75 = 4000 input tokens

Ave no of words/answer: 100 Ave no of questions/month: 200 Ave no of question tokens/month: 100X200X100/75 = 27000 output tokens

We intend to create a simple knowledge base of 30000 words = 40000 tokens

There is no model customization and no provision throughput.

Using the price estimator, for Titan Express feature, enter 4000 input tokens, 27000 output tokens. For Titan Text Embeddings feature, enter 40000 tokens. The price estimate / month only came to 0.05 USD.

I believed my calculations are correct. However, a look at the absolute figure means for the scale of the trial we are considering, there is effectively no cost.

Am I missing something? Did I make some wrong assumptions? Grateful for any advice. Thank you.

Hi Joe, Based on the information provided, it seems your calculations for the estimated costs of using Amazon Bedrock's with RAG are correct. The key points are:

  • For Titan Express : You estimated 4,000 input tokens and 27,000 output tokens per month. The aprox. pricing of only $0.05 per month for these usage levels.
  • For Titan Text Embedding: You estimated a knowledge base of 40,000 tokens. The aprox. pricing of $0.005 per month.

It does seem that for the modest prototype you are considering, the costs would be effectively negligible. Your assumptions and calculations appear to be sound.

A few additional points to consider:

  • The pricing for Amazon Bedrock is based on a pay-as-you-go model, so the costs will scale linearly as your usage increases.
  • There are also charges for model customization, if you plan to create custom models beyond the pre-trained foundation models.
  • It's always a good idea to monitor your actual usage and costs once you start using the service, as the pricing can change over time.

I suggest to reach out to AWS Support if you have any other questions about estimating or managing your costs further for the prototype.
