Send from Workmail as alias via Outlook

0

Hi,

I'd like to send mails as alias via Outlook.

According to this topic, it should be possible with Outlook, but it doesn't seem to work.

First I've set up the alias for the WorkMail user. Sending as alias via WorkMail worked after that. Then I've tried to send as alias via Outlook by setting the defined alias with "From". When I set up the WorkMail account as default (Exchange), the "From" Field doesn't change and the mail doesn't get sent as alias. It neither gets sent, when I set up the WorkMail account via IMAP/SMTP, but at least the "From" field changes to the alias. Setting up the alias mail as an separate Outlook account also doesn't work, since the mail gets send as the main user either way.

Best regards

Hi Robin,

I use Microsoft® Outlook® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2207 Build 16.0.15427.20166) 32 Bit.

  • Hi,

In that case it should work. Can you see the correct From address in the sent items? Also are you sending the email back to yourself or to another user in the same WorkMail organization? It seem that in that case the alias is resolved to the primary email address.

I will check with the service team is that is intended behavior.

    Kind regards, Robin

  • Hi,

I can only see the correct From address in the sent items, if I connect via Exchange and use a non-registered alias. This mail gets bounced of course, but at least the sent item says "main mail on behalf of alias mail". If I try to use a registered alias, the change doesn't apply in the From field before even sending the mail and the sent mail also doesn't reflect the change. I'm sending the mails to another domain, which is not part of a WorkMail organization.

Does it matter which way I set up the account (IMAP, Exchange or Exchange 2013 or earlier)? Do I need to grant permissions for the WorkMail user besides registering the alias?

    Best Regards

Hi,

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing problems with sending mails using a alias. Are you using Windows Outlook? This feature is not supported in Mac Outlook.

Kind regards, Robin
