How to use a public ECR with AWS Lambda?

Question

Me and my tech team are trying to connect the lambda function by keeping our repo as public but it shows a error that the URI is invalid when we try to connect it. 
We want to use the public repo instead of private using the lambda function. 
We have uploaded the image and done everything else. We just want to now put it on the public repo.  
Is that at all possible?

When using containers to deploy AWS Lambda functions, the container image must reside in Amazon ECR. Amazon ECR Public and other repositories are not supported. See [Working With Lambda Container Images](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/lambda/latest/dg/images-create.html) for details.
