Upgrade EKS Cluster with managed node groups

1

Hello,

I didn't find any info for this. To upgrade managed node groups after upgraded the EKS control plane, do we always have to do it manually (I talk about the "launch"). Is there a way to upgrade automaticaly node groups after the control plane upgrade is done ? If not, so if we have 5 node groups, we will have to launch manually five times the upgrade ?

Thank you

There is no way to upgrade automaticaly node groups after the control plane upgrade. You can update a node group version with eksctl or the AWS Management Console, you can find on this link: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/update-managed-node-group.html#mng-update.

  • You told me to maybe consider using karpenter instead of NG, what is the difference in automation ?

  • That is right! Maybe can consider using karpenter instead of nodegroup.
