Cannot be sure that domain is registered properly

0

I registered the domain "indigenous-engagement.org" through a DNS Zone in Lightsail (which is just a handy cover for Route 53). The registration screen said that, as a final step, I had to click on a link that would be sent to the e-mail address of the Domain Registrant. I was warned that if I didn't do this in 30 days then the domain would be deregisterd. The e-mail never came.

Much to my horror I then discovered that there was a typo in the Registrant's e-mail address's domain. So of course it never arrived! I then updated the contact information in Route53 to be correct. Now, with the Domain in this state I would have expected that a new e-mail with the link would be sent to the new address - but it wasn't. I got the notification that the contact info had been changed (at the address that I changed it to) but no verification link ever appeared and there is no "resend e-mail" button on the console anymore as there was while I was waiting for the e-mail sent to the non-existant address.

So is my domain going to be deregistered in 30 days or did I just discover a security hole whereby I can cancel the verification link requirement by changing the contact e-mail? How do I tell?

The domains in the "pre-link clicking" stage used to have a tag saying something about this step remaining to be done but there's nothing like that there now. The certificate for the site has been issued and you can connect to the site OK.

Hello.

If you have domain registration issues, I recommend that you open a case with AWS Support under "Account and billing".
Inquiries under "Account and billing" can be made free of charge.

Hi,

If there is no longer a warning message with regards to confirming your email address, it likely means the email has already been confirmed, for example, if you have used it with another registered domain in your account earlier and done the confirmation then.

To verify above, in Lightsail console's Domains and DNS section, please visit the Advanced tab for your registered domain and click through on Manage in Amazon Route 53. This will take you to Route53Domains console where you can also view details of your registered domain.

In Route53Domains console if you see a badge/label saying Verified next to the Registrant contact, then that means the email address is already confirmed.

If not, please follow https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/domain-click-email-link.html to have the confirmation email sent again.

Thanks.
