How many are using GreenGrass and what are the use cases?

0

I have been buying opti22 Rios and installing them on machines to collect cycle (production) info. We chose this because it was easiest out of the box. We are using IOT core from AWS as the broker. In a recent phone conversation someone from AWS leaned pretty heavily on me to look at Greengrass. I have started and do like having groups of things (Greengrass core units) to update in a central place. It bears updating a bunch of edge gateways manually. There is a bit of a learning curve though.

Certainly replacing or buying raspberry pi's at < $250 is better than $900 rios.

I am wondering how many are actually using Greengrass out there and for what use cases? What are your feelings about Greengrass? I will end up with less than 255 edge devices collecting sensor data in various uses.

Should I persevere?

Hi flycast,

We have a lot of Industrial IoT customers using Greengrass. There are tons of use cases - collecting sensor data is definitely one of them. I'd recommend following up with your account manager who can provide you more details on relevant case studies and potentially connect you with AWS professional services.

Thanks, -joe

Hello flycast,

First of all, thank you for considering implementing your use case using Greengrass and taking a step forward in learning about Greengrass use cases that are currently in implementation. A great way to learn the same will be to follow this link which lists all the organisations which are implementing Greengrass along with other AWS services to achieve their use case.

In addition to that, I'd recommend following up with your account manager who can provide you more details on relevant case studies and potentially connect you with AWS professional services.

Hope that helps.
