AWS Blu Age SDE Deployment issues / can't manage to download npm dependencies

0

I'm encountering issues while attempting to deploy AWS Blu Age SDE using an EC2 instance running Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023). The installation process fails as the 'npm install' command freezes, preventing a return to the prompt.

Current configuration:

Node.js version: v18.20.4
npm version: 10.9.0 (latest)

Here is what I have tried:

Alternative versions:

  • Attempted with Node.js v20 and npm v10.7.0

Dependency updates:

  • Installed npm-check-updates

  • Updated package.json

  • Removed node_modules and package-lock.json

  • Reinstalled dependencies

Limiting parallel downloads and disable progress bar:

  • npm install --maxsockets=3 --progress=false

npm configuration changes:

  • Changed npm registry : npm config set registry http://registry.npmjs.org/
  • Disabled strict SSL verification : npm config set strict-ssl false

Despite these attempts, the problem persists. The 'npm install' command continues to hang without completing the installation or allowing a return to the command prompt.

Hi,

There is an issue with AL2023 with the linux kernel 6.1.115-126.197.amzn2023. You can retrieve your kernel version with the command: uname -a

A new release of AL2023 will probably fix the issue.

To fix:

rm -fr node_modules
rm -f package-lock.json
export UV_USE_IO_URING=0
npm install --verbose

To allow all user: sudo vi /etc/environment - paste export UV_USE_IO_URING=0 then restart ec2

Check the environment variable printenv - UV_USE_IO_URING=0 should appear

Or you can use a different image with older kernel.

I understand you're facing difficulties deploying AWS Blu Age SDE on an EC2 instance running Amazon Linux 2023, specifically with the npm install process freezing. This is a challenging situation, and I'll provide some insights based on the information available about AWS Blu Age Runtime.

First, it's important to note that AWS Blu Age Runtime has specific version requirements for its components. According to the latest release information, AWS Blu Age Runtime has been tested with Node.js version 18.18 and npm version 9.8. Your current configuration (Node.js v18.20.4 and npm 10.9.0) is slightly newer, which could potentially cause compatibility issues.

Here are some suggestions to address this problem:

  1. Version Alignment: Try downgrading to Node.js 18.18 and npm 9.8, as these are the versions explicitly tested with AWS Blu Age Runtime. This alignment might resolve compatibility issues causing the installation to freeze.

  2. Network and Firewall Settings: Ensure that your EC2 instance has proper network access to download npm packages. Check your security group settings and make sure outbound traffic is allowed.

  3. Instance Resources: Verify that your EC2 instance has sufficient CPU and memory resources. npm install can be resource-intensive, especially for large projects.

  4. Logging and Debugging: Enable verbose logging for npm (npm install --verbose) to get more information about where the process is hanging. This could provide clues about specific packages or steps causing issues.

  5. Proxy Configuration: If your network uses a proxy, ensure it's correctly configured for npm (npm config set proxy http://proxy.server:port).

  6. Clearing npm Cache: Try clearing the npm cache (npm cache clean --force) before attempting the installation again.

  7. Alternative Package Manager: Consider using an alternative package manager like Yarn, which might handle the dependencies differently.

  8. AWS Support: If the issue persists after trying these steps, it may be worth contacting AWS support or the AWS Blu Age team directly, as there could be specific requirements or known issues with the AWS Blu Age SDE deployment process on AL2023.

Remember to always back up your work before making significant changes to your development environment. If possible, try replicating the setup on a fresh EC2 instance to isolate any potential system-specific issues.

Lastly, keep an eye on AWS Blu Age release notes for any updates or known issues related to the deployment process, as these are regularly updated with new information and fixes.
