MGN and Snowball

0

I have to migrate more than 20 VMs from on-premis to AWS lift & shift, I'd like to use MGN for the migration, however bandwith is low and I'm wondering if it's possible to use Snowball or Snowcone to store initial VM images and then synchronize data with MGN. I didn't see any Snowball integration in MGN just online migration. I have 2 databases MS SQL and PostreSQL which I could copy to Snowcone and then synchronize with DMS but what about VM images?

You can store the Virtual Disks on snowball devices and then copy to S3 Bucket ready to import.

Goto Import and Export in MGN and Import from S3

  • how can I sync then the VMs on-premis still running with the server imported from S3?

  • Import/Export in MGN is only to import .csv file containing the inventory, it's not used to import images from S3

With Snowball, you still need to VM import from S3 bucket in as EC2 instance. Unlike DMS, MGN does not have a "delta-sync" feature.

You can continue to use MGN agent to replicate from on-prem, and if necessary throttle the bandwidth used for replication.
