Hello.
I did some research, but I didn't think it was mentioned in the AWS documentation.
Judging from the GitHub issue below, it seems that ARM cannot be used as of October 2024.
https://github.com/aws/apprunner-roadmap/issues/98
As a workaround, I think you can create a container image by specifying "--platform=linux/arm64" in the Dockerfile.
FROM --platform=linux/arm64 nginx:latest
Based on the available information from AWS documentation, there is no explicit mention of ARM64 image support for AWS App Runner. App Runner is designed to run containerized web applications and API services, supporting various programming languages and frameworks. However, the documentation does not specifically address ARM64 architecture support.
App Runner is described as being agnostic to the programming language and web application server or framework you choose. It supports any image that implements a web application. However, this general statement doesn't necessarily imply support for different CPU architectures like ARM64.
Your experience of trying to run an ARM64 image on App Runner, which resulted in the service attempting to run it as an AMD64 image, suggests that App Runner may not currently have native support for ARM64 images. The lack of a setting to specify the architecture also points in this direction.
Given the absence of clear documentation on this matter and your practical experience, it appears that AWS App Runner may not currently support ARM64 images natively. However, to get a definitive answer, it would be best to contact AWS support directly or check the most recent AWS App Runner documentation, as features and capabilities can change over time.

Thanks this.
I don’t think setting the platform in the dockerfile would work would it? It looks like apprunner will either run arm64 or it won’t
I guess it doesn’t matter for now, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything
