Figured out the answer to my problem, so I'll leave it here in case anyone in the future runs into this.
When I logged in this morning, unbeknownst to me, the region had changed to US WEST 1, where I had been working in US EAST 2 yesterday. This also solved my problem of my emails not authenticating, because I needed to be in US EAST 1. The other regions were simply in sandbox mode.
You can change the region you are working in with a little drop down menu in the far upper right corner, where it says things like "N. Virginia", "Ohio", etc.
