Discrepancy between Cloudfront Usage Report and Cloudfront metrics in Cloudwatch

I am trying to get monthly usage statistics of Cloudfront and I am seeing massive discrepancy between CloudFront > Reports & analytics > Usage > Reports and the Cloudwatch metrics for Cloudfront.

What is the source of this difference? How can I get the same result for total usage in Cloudwatch as Cloudfront report?

CloudWatch Metrics Insights currently has the following limits:

  • Currently, you can query only the most recent three hours of data.

If you changed your graph view from Number to Line for example it tells you this. Seems really misleading it doesn't tell you for Number!
