Usage of Open Search in free tier

0

I used Open Search for the first time yesterday and created a domain (t3.small.search) and then created a subscription filter for a Lambda function . However I have deleted those. Monitoring the billing I have costs

It says 10GB-Mo for free for 12 Months and I have apparently used 5 with a forecasted usage of 8. I am not using this anymore. How can I make sure the usage stop?

I checked and the domain is deleted,I also deleted an additional lambda function that was apparently automatically created , and the the subscription filter is deleted too.

Yesterday I also created some dashboards and visualizations and from this inteface I created an index pattern that got refreshed every 5 seconds but that interface is gone and I can not access it anymore

Based on the information you've provided, it seems you've taken the correct steps to stop further usage of Amazon OpenSearch Service. Here's a breakdown of your actions and some additional information:

  1. You created and then deleted an OpenSearch domain using a t3.small.search instance.
  2. You've deleted the associated Lambda function and subscription filter.
  3. The dashboards, visualizations, and index pattern you created are no longer accessible, which is expected once the domain is deleted.

These actions should effectively stop any ongoing usage of OpenSearch. The billing you're seeing (5 GB-Mo used out of 10 GB-Mo free) is likely from the time your domain was active. Even if a domain is used for a short period, it may be billed for the full hour or day, depending on the specific pricing details.

To ensure you're not incurring any further costs:

  1. Double-check in the Amazon OpenSearch Service console that there are no active domains.
  2. Verify in the Lambda console that there are no remaining functions related to your OpenSearch usage.
  3. Check your CloudWatch logs to ensure there are no active log streams or subscription filters sending data to OpenSearch.

Regarding the Free Tier usage, Amazon OpenSearch Service typically offers 750 hours per month of a t2.small.search or t3.small.search instance and 10 GB per month of optional EBS storage for free. The usage you're seeing (5 GB-Mo used, 8 GB-Mo forecasted) is likely related to the EBS storage that was provisioned for your domain during its existence.

If you've confirmed that everything has been deleted and you're still concerned about ongoing usage, you can:

  1. Monitor your billing dashboard over the next few days to ensure the usage doesn't increase.
  2. Set up billing alerts in your AWS account to notify you if you exceed certain thresholds.
  3. Use the AWS Free Tier usage API to programmatically check your usage and ensure it doesn't increase unexpectedly.

Remember that billing data may not update immediately, so it might take a day or two for your account to reflect the complete cessation of OpenSearch usage.
