Free Tier Account Question

-1

I accidentally clicked the button to switch my account from the free tier to the main tier. How can I get it back? I want to see what's included in my free tier like before.

Hello.

I tried changing my account from a free tier account to a paid account, but it seems there is no way to change it back.
Do you still have the AWS credits that were allocated to you when you had a free tier account?
If you have any remaining credits, you can use AWS for free for the remaining credits.
However, please note that you will be charged on-demand rates for any usage exceeding the credits.

When you choose the paid plan, AWS will automatically apply your Free Tier credits to the use of eligible services in your AWS bills. For usage that exceeds the credits, you’re charged with the on-demand pricing.

Based on your description, it sounds like you may have noticed the "Free Tier" indicator disappearing when trying to create resources like EC2 instances. This doesn't necessarily mean you've permanently lost your Free Tier benefits.

Here are some possible explanations and solutions:

  1. The Free Tier indicator may disappear if:
  • You've exceeded your Free Tier usage limits for certain services
  • Your 12-month Free Tier period has expired (Free Tier begins on the date you activate your account)
  • You're trying to create resources in a region where Free Tier isn't available
  • You've selected a non-Free Tier eligible resource (like a larger instance type)
  • Your account joined an AWS Organization as a member account (only management accounts get Free Tier benefits)
  1. To check your Free Tier status:
  • Go to the Billing console → Free Tier dashboard
  • Check if it shows "Your Free Tier has expired" or if it's still tracking usage
  • Verify you're using Free Tier eligible services (like t2.micro or t3.micro EC2 instances)
  1. If you're still within your 12-month Free Tier period:
  • The benefits should still apply even if the visual indicator is missing
  • Try creating resources that are explicitly Free Tier eligible
  • Make sure you're in a supported region

Unfortunately, if you've actually upgraded to a paid account plan, there isn't a direct way to revert back to the Free plan. However, you can still monitor your usage to stay within Free Tier limits if they're still available to you.

If you need further clarification about your specific account status, contacting AWS Billing Support would be the best option.
