AWS OpsWorks Stacks is reaching End of Life. How will this affect connected ec2 instances? Specifically ssh access.

Since AWS OpsWorks Stacks is reaching End of Life on May 26, I would like to know how this will affect the connected ec2 instances. Most importantly but not limited to the ssh access. Will I still be able to use the existing keys to connect to the ec2 instances?

The end of life for AWS OpsWorks Stacks will not affect your ability to connect to existing EC2 instances using SSH keys. After May 26, 2024:

  • You will no longer be able to manage your stacks through the OpsWorks console, API or CLI.
  • The EC2 instances in your stacks will remain running as long as they are configured to stop or terminate when the associated stack is deleted.
  • You can continue to connect to the EC2 instances using the same SSH keys as before. The private keys stored on your local machine will still work.

It is recommended to migrate your stacks and applications to AWS Systems Manager or other services as soon as possible for long term management and support.
