Workspaces USB Redirection causes browser crashes.

0

My company recently switched to Yubikey for MFA. We were required to switch to PCoIP protocol to use USB redirection, previously we used WSP without any sort of issues. The redirection seems to cause browsers (any browser) to crash within seconds of launching the application. We have tried many many troubleshooting steps, to no avail. Any advice is appreciated. After many attempts, it will occasionally let us into a browser but more often than not, the browser will crash.

I apologize for the inconvenience you're experiencing with browser crashes related to USB redirection in Amazon WorkSpaces. While the specific issue you're describing isn't directly addressed in the provided information, I can offer some insights and suggestions based on the available data.

First, it's important to note that WorkSpaces only supports YubiKey redirection for Windows clients when using PCoIP. The switch from WSP to PCoIP for USB redirection is correct, as this is necessary for YubiKey support.

However, the browser crashes you're experiencing are not a typical behavior and suggest there might be a conflict or compatibility issue. Here are a few suggestions to troubleshoot:

  1. Ensure you're using the latest version of the WorkSpaces client and that your WorkSpace is up-to-date.

  2. Check if the issue persists when USB redirection is disabled. This can help isolate whether the problem is specifically related to the USB redirection feature.

  3. Verify that you're using a supported version of Windows for your WorkSpace. Some features may not be available or may cause issues on older Windows versions.

  4. If possible, try connecting to the WorkSpace using Web Access to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is related to the client application or the WorkSpace itself.

  5. Enable advanced logging on your WorkSpaces client to generate diagnostic logs. These logs can be helpful for further troubleshooting or if you need to open a support case with AWS.

  6. Check if there are any conflicting security software or policies on the WorkSpace that might be interfering with the browser or USB redirection.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, it would be advisable to collect client and bundle logs and open a support case with AWS. They can provide more specific guidance based on your exact setup and the diagnostic information from the logs.

Remember, while YubiKey support is available for Windows clients using PCoIP, it's not a common cause of browser crashes. The persistent crashes you're experiencing suggest there might be a more complex interaction at play that requires deeper investigation.

  • The issue is specific to USB redirection, it does not occur when a device is not redirected.
