Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer

0

i have been trying to connect through remote desktop but am getting the following message, tried everything i knew to resolve it.

Remote Desktop can’t connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

  1. Remote access to the server is not enabled
  2. The remote computer is turned off
  3. The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled.

Kindly help me resolve the same at the earliest. Instance: i-0d5a6effc2f7c715f

This message means there is a network connectivity issue to your instance. We have a bunch of troubleshooting steps for this here. Please indicate what you have already done.

  • Hello i have followed most of the steps as mentioned in the document, but it does not seem to connect. Kindly help me resolve it Thanks

  • Bit more detail please, is the instance in public/private subnet, does it have public ip, where are you connecting from, have you got onto the instance via alternative means eg ssm session manager to check remote desktop is running and windows firewall is configured correctly, is this a newly launched instance or an instance you were previously able to connect to. Do not provide any specific ip addresses or IDs in this public forum

In addition to the above mentioned steps, ensure the PC you are using with an RDP client is not blocking outbound port 3389. If you are on a corporate network, connected through a VPN, or outbound traffic flows through a proxy often times organizations will prevent port 3389.

  • as mentioned above if you are on your company/work device, please sign off of your corp vpn and / or try it from a home pc or device. 95% of the time this issue is security group/nacl or corp network issues. next step to try would be security group changes

Hi,

There are couple of reason for the above mentioned error which you can check for the issue. I hope you have checked all steps in the documents and assuming that you have correct port and IP range in the security group, public IP address associated with the instance etc.

Can you also check by attaching the ENI as a secondary network interface and assign the public IP to it. Then try to access sit from the assigned public IP. Check for the security group rule for the ENI.

You could try launching a Linux instance in the same subnet and connecting through ssh to rule out network issues.
