Admin needs to cancel other user's SkillBuilder subscription

I'm an admin for my organization's AWS account. There is an individual user account that has a SkillBuilder monthly subscription associated with it. I need to cancel this subscription. How do I do that as the admin?

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about these frustrations. I've passed along your feedback to our Training and Certification team for review.

In the meantime, I'd recommend connecting with them also for further support. You can fill out the needed details on this form: http://go.aws/contact-training. They will then be able to follow up with you over email correspondence.

As an admin for your organization's AWS account, you cannot directly cancel another user's AWS Skill Builder subscription. The cancellation process for AWS Skill Builder subscriptions is typically performed by the individual user who owns the subscription.

The standard process for cancelling an AWS Skill Builder subscription involves the user logging into their own Skill Builder learner account and navigating through their account settings. However, as an admin, you don't have direct access to individual user's Skill Builder accounts.

In this situation, the best course of action would be to:

  1. Contact the individual user and provide them with instructions on how to cancel their own subscription. They should:

    • Log in to AWS Skill Builder
    • Go to "My Account" in the menu
    • Select "Purchases and Subscriptions"
    • Click "Go to your subscriptions"
    • Choose "Cancel Subscription" and follow the prompts
  2. If the user is unable to cancel the subscription themselves or if you're unable to reach them, you may need to contact AWS Support directly. They may be able to assist you with cancelling the subscription or provide further guidance on managing subscriptions associated with your organization's account.

  3. For future reference, consider implementing policies or guidelines within your organization regarding the use and management of individual AWS Skill Builder subscriptions to prevent similar situations.

Remember, it's important to respect individual user accounts and privacy, so always try to work with the user first before taking administrative action on their behalf.

  • As one of my company's administrators of AWS, we (I) are very respectful of our company's employees. We have implemented policies and guidelines for the generous access and use of SkillBuilder. However, some employees don't consider it worth their time to follow the individual user instructions for cancelling the SkillBuilder subscription. Thus, it falls to me with the fiduciary responsibility for cost control of our AWS infrastructure services and subscriptions to cancel said services and subscriptions when the individual users refuse or fail to do so. It would be nice and appropriate for designated AWS admins to have the rights and permissions to cancel subscriptions like SkillBuilder. AWS/Amazon should leave it up to each company or organization whether or not they "respect individual user accounts and privacy" for company resource. I gave the individual their account to begin with and I can take it away. Give ME some respect.
