Failed to stop the instance - An internal error has occurred

0

My EC2 instance currently has 1/2 status check and it usually resolves after I stop/reboot the instance. However, I cant stop/reboot the instance and keep getting this error.

"Failed to stop the instance - An internal error has occured"

There are also event logs created on my Health Dashboard

  1. EC2 API issue - Status open
  2. CloudWatch operational issue - Status open
  3. EC2 instance connect operational issue - Status open

Anyone else facing the same issue?

Hi I'm facing the same issue with one of my instance, same as you on the Heatlh Dashboard an issue as been opened. On my Heatlh dashboard I have the following open:

  • EC2 API issue
  • CloudWatch operational issue
  • EC2 instance connect operational issue

I've also noticed when checking the EC2 dashboard, the volumes tab displayed an "API error" and I couldn't create or interact with any volumes (I suspect it's the cause of why we can't terminate our ec2 instances) I'm on region ap-southeast-1, when changing region everything was apparently fine.

Now it appear everything is back at normal (not read message about API error), but when I try to terminate the instance, I got a message saying it succesfully did, but the instance stay up.

I guess waiting is the only thing to do.

Edit: Tried with both aws-cli and cloudshell, I'm not able to terminate the instance
