More granular control of file versioning in WorkDocs Drive in the future?

Having an option to disable automatic file versioning every 30 seconds would be beneficial. Currently this versioning model uses too much storage for a scenario of 3D design software with potentially hundreds or thousands of files locked for edit at once on Drive. Perhaps I have overlooked an option to disable this functionality?
