Do “Data Transfer OUT” charges apply when exporting data from Amazon S3 to an AWS Snowball device (ap-south-1 region)?

Hello AWS Team,

I would like to confirm the data transfer cost behaviour for an AWS Snowball export job in the Mumbai (ap-south-1) region.

We have about 50 TB of data stored in Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive, which we plan to restore to S3 Standard and then export to our on-premises data centre using an AWS Snowball Edge Storage Optimised device.

According to the AWS Snowball Pricing page , the documentation states:

“Data transfer IN to Amazon S3 is $0.00 per GB (free). Data transfer OUT of Amazon S3 is priced by region.”

Some AWS discussions suggest that exports to a Snowball device are treated as internal AWS transfers and may not incur standard S3 Data Transfer OUT charges, while others indicate that standard regional rates still apply for such exports.

Could AWS please confirm, for the Mumbai (ap-south-1) region, whether:

Standard S3 Data Transfer OUT charges apply when exporting S3 data to a Snowball device, or

This export path is exempt from S3 egress charges (similar to internal AWS transfers).

If possible, please reference any official AWS documentation or pricing page section that clarifies this behavior.
