An Amazon Chime high-definition session is a premium video conferencing option that offers enhanced video quality and content sharing capabilities. These sessions support up to 25 participants and provide the following key features:
-
Video quality: High-definition sessions allow for 1080p webcam video, providing sharper images and finer detail. This improved resolution helps capture the natural texture of a person's appearance more accurately.
-
Content sharing: These sessions support 4K screen sharing, which significantly improves the readability of text and the overall clarity of shared content.
-
Advanced video encoding: Developers can choose from various video encoding options, including bitrates up to 2.5Mbps and frame rates up to 30fps. New codec options like VP9, AV1, and scalable video coding (SVC) are also available, offering improved compression for better video quality at the same bitrate.
-
Scalable Video Coding (SVC): When enabled, SVC encodes video in multiple spatial (resolution) and temporal (frame rate) layers. This allows the Amazon Chime SDK to automatically optimize video quality for each viewer based on their network bandwidth.
-
Audio quality: High-definition sessions support 48kHz stereo audio, ensuring high-quality sound for all participants.
It's important to note that high-definition sessions have some limitations compared to standard sessions. They are restricted to a maximum of 25 attendees, and there are additional attendee capacity costs associated with these premium features. When creating a meeting, if you request Full HD (1080p) video or Ultra HD (4K) content, your session will automatically be set up as a high-definition session.
