Instance unreachable - service check failed - advice?

Edit: I am getting more status checks failing today, on a new instance I have built. Does this mean the problem is with the server config not with Amazon?

Hello,

I have an EC2 running in Ireland that is a web server. It worked fine yesterday and today, but the sites have gone offline. I checked the console and it has found status check 2, the reachability check.

Do you know how I can check what's causing this?

Update: the system is now passing both checks and is reachable again but I need to find out what caused this, as my sites were offline for over 2 hours, and how to mitigate it in future.

Any advice? Thank you

  • Thanks, would you expect this to happen often? If it's unreachable like that and then just magically fixes itself, is this an issue with Amazon? I did restart the server, not sure if that had any impact. But the server was just running fine and no one was working on it and it became unreachable.

The problem is I have double the bill then don't I, if I have two instances, I assume that's the case? If so, is that the only way to mitigate against this?

    Thanks for advice,
