updating cloudwatch agent in linux instances

Question

got many red hat linux instances. 
configured many custom cloudwatch metrics and dashbaords are working fine.

now am planning to update cloudwatch agent in all linux instances.. 
if i do so, will it affect any of my custom metrics/dashboards ? ?

It shouldn't, my recommendation would be to review your current cloudwatch agent configurations to make sure it matches the following:

I would also recommend using Systems Manager for updating cloudwatch agents on your VM's
