Cudos Dashboard Saving Calculations

0

According to the insights on the Cudos dashboard, we were making a monthly saving of $12k when switching to standard-ia in this table.

We made the transition on January 31st, and even now, we can see a saving of $3k.

However, when looking from the CE (Cost Explorer), there is no cost saving; in fact, there is an increase on average.

January: Average daily cost $1,305.09

February: Average daily cost $1,333.43

There is no unusual usage and we monitored that recommendations for 2 months before changing table type. Also write and read figures are within the committed throughput limits. After he change we see that the storage cost has decreased, but the write and read costs are increasing more in comparison, thus there is no saving.

What should we do to get more accurate insights on cudos dashboard to save our time/money ?

Hello,

It's not completely clear which part of CUDOS you're talking about. Are you talking about the DynamoDB tab with the table "TOP 15 Candidates for IA Tables Last 30 Days"?

If this is the section you're talking about, you've changed these recommended tables to Infrequent Access and you're not seeing the costs go down? Ensure that you've only changed tables you don't access frequently to Standard-IA as there is a higher read/write cost on these tables once you move them to this storage tier.

The recommendation in CUDOS is based on your read/write usage of these particular tables. If the read/write usage is low, then a recommendation is made to move them to Standard-IA.

Hello, thanks for the answer,

Yes, I'm talking about the Top 15, you can see the estimation for the month before making, and there is an estimation for the month after making the change. Now, when I checked, this table is not in the top 15 list, also no saving, in fact, there is a slight increase. What I mean is, when these numbers are calculated, they are already calculated based on throughput and storage information, and an estimation is made. I see that it's not very accurate to take action based on these estimations. Proceeding via https://calculator.aws/#/createCalculator/DynamoDB will provide more accurate results. Do you have any suggestions regarding the cudos dashboards or any method to improve the results of this dashboard.
