A student to have access to a massive machine learning instance like that may be unwise. What is the purpose behind it, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux in general? Amazon Linux 2 is based on RHEL and is free to use along with why not have a student use a t2.micro instance? That would fall under free tier, or be very cheap in general.

Thanks for input!

I think our professor's determined the need for 8 hour's use is justified, far be it for the lowly purchasing person to protest. does that help point me to step by step executing the order any better?

I'm going to advise you here. I think it is extremely unwise for a student to be messing around with raw instances at this size for school projects. These are designed for large scale enterprises. Are you able to investigate using SageMaker instead?
