While Amazon FSx for Windows File Server can be used for shared storage in various applications, it is not specifically designed or recommended for IBM MQ clusters. Instead, for IBM MQ deployments on AWS, it is recommended to use Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP.
Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP is better suited for IBM MQ clusters as it provides the necessary features for distributed storage and high availability. When using FSx for NetApp ONTAP with IBM MQ:
- The file system should be created in subnets that have connectivity with the IBM MQ environment.
- Security groups need to be configured to allow communication between the FSx elastic network interfaces and the IBM MQ environment.
- Storage capacity, IOPS, and throughput should be aligned with your application requirements.
- The file system can be mounted on the instances where IBM MQ is running, using either the DNS name or IP address of the file system.
- The mount point should be included in the fstab file for Linux machines to ensure automatic mounting upon instance restart.
By using Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, you can achieve better performance, scalability, and high availability for your IBM MQ clusters on AWS. This setup allows IBM MQ to be deployed in an Auto Scaling group spanning multiple Availability Zones, with FSx for NetApp ONTAP providing data persistence and high availability for queue message data.
