Data transfer cost on VPC peering with different AWS accounts

0

My customer is planning to create VPC peering with different AWS accounts and they are confused who is the payer for data transfer in this situation.

All accounts are in same AWS Region (Seoul)

Account A (VPC A) <---> VPC Peering <---> Account B (VPC B)

[Scenario]

VPC Peering Data In/Out = 0.01 USD/GB

Account A (VPC A) send 2gb data then receive 1gb data as response from Account B (VPC B)

Data flow would be to below.

  1. Data Transfer Out from VPC A = 0.02 USD (0.01*2gb) ==> Payer: Account A

  2. Data Transfer In to VPC B = 0.02 USD (0.01*2gb) ==> Payer: Account B

  3. Data Transfer Out from VPC B = 0.01 USD (0.01*1gb) ==> Payer: Account B

  4. Data Transfer In to VPC A = 0.01 USD (0.01*1gb) ==> Payer: Account A

So, totally Account A need to pay 0.03 USD and Account B need to pay 0.03 USD.

I would like to double check if my understanding is correct.

As of the 5/5/21 VPC Peering pricing change, this is no longer accurate. So long as data being transferred between VPCs stays within the same availability zone, there is no data transfer charge for neither Account A nor Account B.

There is no additional charge for data transfer across a VPC peering connection. Normal cross region and cross availability zone data transfer costs sill apply, see Data Transfer in Amazon EC2 Pricing.
