Appstream 2.0 access to local on-premises file share.

1

Hi all,

I want to know if I deploy the Appstream 2.0, whether it can access local file shares created on the on-premises network location. The On-prem network is not connected via direct-connect, nor I want to use the same as that will be a huge cost impact.

Would be great if you guys suggest me some.

Hello Rahul,

  1. If your file shares (not local client drives) are mapped to your local client machine, you can use AppStream client (Windows only) to map those in the AppStream session using File System Redirection
  2. If your file shares are not mapped on your local client device because users are using their own devices or using web client and you want those file shares to be available in the AppStream session or map the file shares in the streaming session, then you need to have private connectivity between your on-premise network and AWS VPC where AppStream is hosted.

Yes. The feature is called File System Redirection. You will need Appstream Windows Client installed on your local machine. Reference: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/appstream2/latest/developerguide/enable-file-system-redirection.html

  • What if the user is working remotely and want to access the organization files stored on the remote location.
