RDS Postgres Extended Support not removing.

0

I have an RDS Postgres instance that had entered Extended support and after testing and some remediation I have been able to upgrade from 11.22 to version 12.17 (version is not currently in Extended support) as well as a newer instance. The Database still indicates that it is in Extended support. Will the billing stop effective the date I upgraded the instance? The Extended support doubled my RDS charge and I would like to get some savings for the second half of this month at least. There does not seem to be a way to modify the database instance to remove the Ext support.

  • Hello,

You can confirm the Extended Support billing is stopped by looking at Cost Explorer (switch to a daily view to avoid monthly aggregation). Use RDS as service filter and "Usage Type" as grouping parameter to see the RDS charges separately.

    Regards

Hello,

The additional charge for RDS Extended Support automatically stops when you take one of the following actions:

  1. Upgrade to an engine version that's covered under standard support.
  2. Delete the database that's running a major version past the RDS end of standard support date.

So, there is actually no need to pay any additional fees as the Postgres 12.17 version is in Standard support
