When an AWS account is suspended due to payment issues, updating your payment method is the first step, but it doesn't automatically reactivate your account. Account reactivation requires manual intervention from the AWS Support team, which can take time.
Typically, the reactivation process can take 24-48 hours after payment, though in some cases it may take longer depending on support volume and any verification requirements.
Here are some recommended actions:
-
Ensure your support case was opened under the "Account and billing" category, which is accessible even with a suspended account.
-
In your support case, clearly provide:
- When you updated your payment method
- Any payment confirmation details or transaction IDs
- The business impact and critical nature of your services being down
-
Check all email addresses associated with your AWS account, including spam folders, for any communications from AWS that might require additional information.
-
Make sure all your contact information in the AWS account is up-to-date.
-
If you have an AWS Account Manager or work with an AWS Partner, reach out to them for assistance in escalating the issue internally.
-
While waiting, continue to update your existing support case to emphasize the urgency and business impact.
Unfortunately, there isn't a way to immediately reactivate the account on your own. The primary channel for resolving this issue remains AWS Support through your open case. Be persistent but patient, and don't hesitate to request updates if you haven't received a response within a reasonable timeframe.

Hello,
Thank you for your response.
To add more context: I have been seeing the “Complete your account setup” message continuously for the past 3 days, even after updating my payment method with a valid, non-expired credit card.
The checklist page indicates:
Payment method added
Credit card verification pending (possible $1 authorization)
Up to 24 hours for activation
However, it has now been well over 72 hours, and the account remains inaccessible.
I have:
Updated the payment method successfully
Checked all inboxes and spam folders
Opened a support case under Account and Billing
Sent multiple follow-ups explaining the urgency
Despite this, the account still appears stuck in a registration / free plan / suspended state, with no progress.
At this point, I would like to confirm:
Is this a known state where the account is blocked pending manual backend verification?
Is there any way to explicitly trigger or request a manual review to unblock the account?
Is this “Complete your account setup” screen indicative of a failed verification process rather than a simple delay?
Any clarification on how to unblock this specific state would be very helpful.
Thank you.
