Why I cannot decrease the size of the root volume and user volume?

1

Hi,

I use Quick Setup to create a workspace in Ireland. During the setup, there is no option to set the volume size. I choose "Power" bundle. And then I find the built workspace is use the most expensive one(175 GB for root and 100GB for user).

Now I want to reduce the volume sizes. But "Modify root volume" only allows me to set the volume size from 176 GB to 2000GB, not smaller. Why?

Hello,

Any decrease in size could have risking data integrity or system functionality, which is why it's not available.

So You can't decrease the size of root and user volumes after the WorkSpace is launched.

Here you will find all the information about the availability of changing the volume size or computer type of a WorkSpace: https://repost.aws/knowledge-center/workspaces-change-volume-size

  • Then how to unlaunch a Workspace? I have already shut-down the computer and the Workspace status is "Stopped", but still cannot decrease the size?

You can terminate a WorkSpace by selecting the WorkSpace and selecting Delete
