Server Not Found (DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN) on Lightsail WordPress MultiSite after attaching Static IP and domain with configure_app_domain

0

I made a fresh WordPress MultiSite Lightsail instance. After following the Quick start guide: WordPress Multisite (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/en_us/lightsail/latest/userguide/amazon-lightsail-quick-start-guide-wordpress-multisite.html), particularly after Step 5: Route traffic for your registered domain name to your WordPress Multisite website (https://docs.aws.amazon.com/en_us/lightsail/latest/userguide/amazon-lightsail-quick-start-guide-wordpress-multisite.html#amazon-lightsail-map-your-domain-to-your-instance-wordpress-multisite) my instance is no longer reachable from outside AWS, neither using the domain name nor the IP address. I can still access it from the Lightsail browser-based SSH client.

Trying to navigate to the Static IP address redirects to http://[domain].com/wp-signup.php?new=[static ip].nip.io which also does not load.

I'm managing everything from within Lightsail, including DNS zone, name servers, assignments, etc.

My issue is very similar to this one: https://repost.aws/questions/QUSbZMI4NtSku6QE26zBD4Fw/cannot-load-wordpress-multisite-after-setting-primary-domain , the difference being that I'm not using Route 53 for anything, rather doing everything from Lightsail. However, I've been waiting for about a couple hours and it hasn't resolved itself.

Hello,

Since you mentioned using the Lightsail console to register a new domain, did you manage to register and verify the new domain through the Lightsail console according to the documentation? Register a new domain in Lightsail

After registration and verification, you can add the DNS record to route traffic to your Lightsail instance. Please note that DNS record changes can take several hours to propagate through the internet's DNS. Use tools like WhatsMyDNS to check if the DNS changes have propagated globally.

After your domain name is routing traffic to your instance, You can then continue with step 5 from this documentation: Route traffic for your registered domain name to your WordPress Multisite website

  • Hi,

I didn't actually get my domain through Amazon Lightsail, I actually got it from another provider and then I migrated the domain into my Amazon account via Route 53. I then made it so Lightsail is the one managing it.

I also made everything again from scratch: I deleted the DNS zone, made a new one, new instance, new static IP, everything. I'm now waiting for the DNS to propagate.

Will keep you posted as soon as it has propagated. Thanks for your help so far.

It's fixed now, here's what I did:

  1. Added A records for both www.<domain>.com and just <domain>.com.
  2. Waited for the DNS for both records to fully propagate.
  3. Ran sudo /opt/bitnami/configure_app_domain --domain www.<domain>.com and sudo /opt/bitnami/configure_app_domain --domain <domain>.com (the second time without www.).
  4. It now redirects to the instance with either www. or without.

Thanks for the help!
