How do I provide a custom username for the Linux install?

0

Hello,

I want to use a different username instead of the one provided by default with the install. Can I create an instance which uses a name provided by me instead of using default ubuntu for Ubuntu OS.

Regards,
Sudhir.

Thanks for using Lightsail. The default user name can't be changed. However, you can add another user to the instance using 'sudo adduser new-user-name'. Please note that some of the functionalities on the Lightsail console will not apply to the new user name.

Thanks for your response SteveN-AWS.

Are the functionalities documented anywhere?

This functionality is not unique to Lightsail ... it's a basic Linux function.

In fact, 95% of the functionality inside a Amazon Linux instance is unrelated to Lightsail, it's all basic system administration.
