Timestream query performance very slow, seemingly with the switch to TCU based pricing

1

Hi - Since the query TCU pricing rolled out, we have noticed a dramatic reduction in query performance on Timestream. A query that scans 1mb of data would normally be a low sub-second response, now it is 4-6 seconds. Is anyone else experiencing similar performance declines with Timestream?

As a follow up, our query cost has now skyrocketed since switching to TCU based pricing, alongside a massive decrease in performance. Kind of a joke, really, and we may need to find an alternative to Timestream at this point. Really quite a bummer AWS.

Hi, for me also the performance dropped. Now the queries take longer and I`m charged more money. It has a huge impact to switch pricing model (time related) and increase query time. Thanks for help

  • You can create a support ticket to get assistance on the query performance. Ideally, the pricing mechanism should have no impact on the query performance and if there indeed is, the team can look into and resolve it.

Timestream Compute Unit (TCU) is a different mechanism for metering. The underlying infrastructure used for either bytes-scanned or TCUs based metering is the same, implying that there shouldn't be impact on query performance. If you are noticing a performance impact, can you create a support ticket for the service to investigate this further.
